Field Note Friday #1
Behind the scenes of the Dye and Fiber Field Guide Series
As an anthropologist, I live for fieldwork. It’s where the questions come alive—in the mud on my boots, the stories exchanged over garden fences, and the quiet thrill of recognizing a plant that once only existed in an academic paper or a line in an oral history. I love talking to people, asking good questions, and following the threads of memory, practice, and place. It’s what lights me up and keeps me grounded through the more tedious parts of research—yes, I’m looking at you, spreadsheets and citation formatting.
This month marks the launch of a new monthly feature just for subscribers: Field Note Friday. Think of it as a peek behind the curtain—a lightly muddy, plant-stained, research-rich curtain—into the projects I’m working on. These posts will land here one Friday of each month, with the potential for bonus dispatches when fieldwork gets especially juicy.
